I will not celebrate the death of another human being

I mourn the loss of thousand precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one... not even and enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

So many people have pictures of Barack Obama on there facebook pages, and are rejoicing over the death (murder) of Osama bin Laden... and it breaks my heart! He was a man. A child of God. Even if he didn't know it... it doesn't mean its not true. Do you not believe that God wept over this child of his? Don't you think it broke His heart to see the things that Osama did? And don't you think that He loved him in spite of it all? Do you not believe that He loves you despite all you have done?

Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”

But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.”

Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Let us fight darkness with light instead of more darkness. Let us battle hatred with love. Let us battle fear and confusion by sharing the peace and hope that Jesus is offering to this lost and confused world. Christians! look at what you are saying! what are telling the world about the Truth that you believe? This is what I believe...

The death of only ONE man could bring peace. What did we celebrate last week? The death of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins! And the mercy and grace he showed us is what we are called to give to others. Especially our "enemies"... they need it more.

  2. I think people are rejoicing in the same way they rejoiced when Hitler committed suicide. My theory is that people believe that the source of evil and destruction lies in the leader, and that by killing the leader, you stop the terrorism or nazism or racism. The problem is that thousands or millions of people support that leader, the the issue lies with the millions of followers, not with the one leader.

  3. "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35

I choose to live my life as an example of the Love of God, and that includes, as you said Jacquelyn, our enemies. Because you're right, they need it more!
