travels with no real plans

Today is a peaceful day. Sometimes traveling can be stressful when you have certain times you need to be places, or people you have to connect with.... but when you travel... and really have nothing planned, its fantastic!

I woke up this morning with one time related deadline I needed to make. Joel was coming at 830 to pick me up and take me to the ferry. And then he showed up 10 minutes early... and I ended up tossing my cheerios and bananas into an old yogurt container and eating on the run. My cereal was a little soggier that I like it to be... but really... no big deal. We had a great time driving down to Nanaimo... talking about all sorts of things, picked up Josiah, and made it on the 1030 ferry.

We were kept occupied and entertained on the ferry by this brilliant '20 Questions' travel game. It can seriously guess just about anything by asking the most random questions.... such as 'does it weigh more than a duck?' haha. Oh and we were also serenaded the majority of the ride by a lady playing guitar and singing a few row back from where we were sitting. Unfortunately... she sucked. haha. And was singing the wrong words to a lot of the songs. But it was hilarious! :)

I walked off the ferry at around 12 and I have no plans until I meet Chantelle at 530. So I have been schlepping my bags around downtown Vancouver. I stopped at Purdy's Chocolates for a triple dipped ice cream bar (thanks Daddy-O) And now I am just chilling on the patio of the Starbucks in Gas Town that's right across from the Steam Clock... enjoying some relaxing people watching time and an orange mango smoothie.

So far I have seen:
1. So many Asian tourists taking pictures in front of the clock.
2. Some old hippy dude riding his bicycle with a real live bunny in a harness riding on the rack over his back tire (I laughed really hard at this one... out loud... people looked at me like I was crazy... they obviously didn't see what I saw!)
3. A ton of Canucks fans (seriously... they are everywhere)
4. A guy wearing a Cowichan sweater-vest, shorts, and lace-up leather moccasins that came up almost to his knees. (I was about to laugh out loud again, but decided to keep my amusement to myself this time to avoid crazy stares from people around me)
5. Something that looked like a drug deal going on down by the railway tracks.
6. Another old hippy busking on the corner... playing and singing with his head resting in the top curve of his guitar and wearing a rainbow sweater.

Haha... these are just a few things. Vancouver can be so entertaining. I'll probably be sitting here in the sun until my battery dies... then I'll head off to meet Chan for sushi.

This is another week filled with plans (but yet no plans... because I am enjoying this kind of 'fly by the seat of your pants' style traveling) I'll be flying to Manitoba on Saturday morning for Greg and Dani's wedding... visiting friends and family.... and then heading back to the Island on Thursday afternoon.

Okay... looks like my battery is about to bite the bullet. Peace out!
