Manitoba roads are straight and flat.

Well, they are “flat”. Haha. They really aren’t actually flat! I thought the road to Tofino was bad… but its nothing compared to pretty well every single road we were on in Winnipeg, Steinbach, Rosenort… and the highways in between. And I’m pretty sure we drove for at least an hour and a half on them every day!

I’ve had yet another busy trip… including a wedding, relatives, friends, planes, trains, automobiles and ferries.

We flew in Saturday morning and as soon as we had our rental car it was off to the hospital to visit one of my great Aunts and a cousin of my moms. After that it was onto Uncle Walter and Aunt Betty’s* where we were spending the night and a supper with more great aunts and uncles, and second cousins was being held. Then on Sunday morning we went to church with Walter and Betty, and met Uncle George and Aunt Anne for lunch at the Olive Garden.

Greg and Dani’s wedding was on Sunday afternoon in Steinbach and it was awesome. Possibly the best reaction from a groom that I have seen yet! And a bunch of dancing!!!!! I realized though, that it really isn’t so fun to be the only single friend at a wedding. (I mean... there were other single people there... but none that I knew, or got to know) Anytime it switched from a loud upbeat song… I would awkwardly shuffle off the dance floor and sit until another good song came on… and even when there were louder songs on… the couples would dance togetherish and I felt all alone. Haha. Oh well, story of my life. Later on in the evening I was joined by another "single" friend whose husband couldn't make it out for the wedding and we danced the night away!

Mom and I saw so many relatives on this trip. Most of them I recognized, but no one remembered me. Have I really changed that much in the past few years? At one point mom asked me if I recognized one great aunt and uncle. My response was “ya… I totally recognize them, but when I said HI to aunt Anne to she looked at me with the blankest look… pretty sure she had no idea who was” Then mom told me that she has really poor eye sight and probably couldn't see me. Woopsie! Guess that would explain it.

On Monday I got to see a friend who I hadn’t seen in SO long. We were neighbors for 2 months when I was 5… and have seen maybe handful of times since then. The last time was in 2004 when we were in Manitoba for a Hildebrand Hoot. Some of my friends thought I was crazy… but it was good. We had a great chill day… watching movies, going out for sushi (my FAVORITE) and I even went to a casino for the very first time. We tried one of the slot machines and failed big time… but it was cool to at least go into one! Haha. We were supposed to have made cookies too… guess we’ll just have to do that next time.

Then on Tuesday… ahhhh… I couldn’t wait for Tuesday. I spent the afternoon and evening with Jessica, a friend that I went to school with at Tauernhof. And who I haven’t seen since we left school in June 2008. That’s just about 3 years ago! We sat in Cousin Kim’s gazebo in Rosenort for hours and chatted, and she stayed for supper… and then watched the Canucks game with me. Oh man… what a game! Between periods we would chat some more. When the Canucks finally won halfway through the second OT (just about midnight Manitoba time) we did a little dance and then had to say our goodbyes. Hopefully we don’t leave another 3 years between visits.

Then Wednesday it was off to Winnipeg again for Aunt Helen’s birthday lunch with more relatives. My relatives are really so hilarious. I don’t know if I have ever laughed so hard in my life. Well… I have, but not for a while. I’ll never be able to think about playing pool without laughing at Aunt Helen’s reaction to her birthday card from Kim.

Mom and I stayed at Kim and Cal’s for Tuesday and Wednesday nights. And there is never any shortage of laughter in that house. It was smiles and giggles the whole time. Kim is an amazing host and had us eating until we were ready to explode. Cal and I fought over the hockey games. He wanted the Canucks to lose so that it would go to game 7 and that they would be really tired if they reached the finals... and wanted Boston to win their next game. But ahhh… the Canucks were just too good… and the Bruins failed! Haha. Well… they have one more chance to beat Tampa in order to face the Nucks in the Stanley Cup finals. There just might be some phone calls between our houses during the final games of the season! Haha.

This morning Kim drove mom and I to the airport… with a lunch break at the Wok Box and it was back to BC for us. I landed in Vancouver and booked it for the Canadaline, almost missed my stop jumped off at just the last minute and ran for the bus. I made it just in time… and made it to the ferry terminal with a few minutes to spare. And now I am here chilling on the ferry… typing this all out, and I’ll transfer it over to my blog once I get home. Jodie is meeting me in Nanaimo with my car, and I'm sure we’ll have a lovely drive home visiting. It honestly feels like WEEKS since I was last saw her. Which is kinda true. Because I was in Kelowna for a wedding… then was home for about a week (and we were both working) and then I’ve been gone for a week again.

Home Sweet Home…. I am coming for you. I can’t wait to crawl into my bed tonight. Mountains and ocean… I have missed you. The puppies will have grown so much! Its good to be back in BC.

*when I say Aunt and Uncle… its really GREAT aunts and uncles. And cousins are my mom’s cousins. I am just to lazy to explain the relationship between each of us… and too lazy to write ‘great’ so many times! haha
